| Insurance Claim Tips and Information When it comes to your home,
any loss can be devastating. By working together
with your insurance company and DeBellis
Construction we can make the repair process much
easier. A few suggestions that will help to speed
the process are:
- Contact your
insurance carrier right away.
- Your safety
is of primary concern so stay clear of
any damaged areas.
- If safely
possible, move furniture or other items
of value to an unaffected area of your
home to prevent further damage to them.
- Make a list
of everything that has been damaged or
destroyed for your insurance adjuster.
Receipts, credit card statements,
canceled checks or owner's manuals will
be very helpful. The more information you
can provide your insurance adjuster the
faster they can process your claim.
- Do not try to
clean damaged items. Cleaning damaged
items without the proper equipment can do
more harm than good.
- Save your
receipts for any costs that you incur due
to your loss (cleaning, water extraction,
etc.) as your insurance provider may
reimburse you for these expenses.
Typical
job flow for an insurance claim
- DeBellis
Construction is contacted either by the
homeowner or your insurance carrier and
informed of the damages that have
occurred.
- An
appointment is made with the homeowner
and DeBellis Construction goes to your
home to inspect the damages.
- Once the
inspection is completed a scope of work (estimate
of repairs) is composed and presented to
the homeowner and your insurance adjuster.
- Once the
scope of work has been approved a work
authorization is signed and DeBellis
Construction can begin work.
- Typically the
homeowner will pay their insurance
deductible directly to DeBellis
Construction. In many cases the check(s)
from your insurance carrier will be made
payable to both the homeowner(s),
DeBellis Construction and your mortgage
company. In cases such as this it can
take several days in order for all
parties to sign off on the check and the
funds made available. Situations such as
this can delay the start of your
construction. In addition, if DeBellis
Construction is performing additional
work (work that your insurance carrier is
not paying for) a 33% deposit is required
on the start date, an additional 33% at
mid-point and the final 34% upon
completion of your project.
Helpful
tips to remember when you home is being remodeled
- Good
communication between the homeowner and
DeBellis Construction is of the utmost
importance throughout the construction
process. DeBellis Construction strives to
keep you well informed every step of the
way. If you ever have a question or think
that something may not be done to your
liking please let us know right away.
- Construction
can be stressful. Remember that part of
your home will be a "construction
zone" and therefore may not be
habitable. Anything that you can do to
plan for this will make the situation
easier for you and your family to
tolerate.
- DeBellis
Construction will make every effort to
work within your schedule. Anything that
you can do to facilitate our access to
your home will help to speed the entire
process along. Please be sure to keep
children and pets clear of the
construction areas for their safety as
well as ours.
- DeBellis
Construction makes every effort to keep
your home as clean as possible throughout
the construction process. The
construction areas are masked off as much
as possible from the remainder of the
home, but remember that your home will
not be as clean and orderly as you would
normally keep it.
- Construction
projects take time. We have all seen a
complete home remodeling take place all
within in a 30-minute television show,
but in reality the process is much longer.
Depending on the scope of work that
DeBellis Construction is performing, the
process could take anywhere from a couple
of days to a couple of months. We make
every effort to set a realistic time line
and stick to it, but there are times that
delays can occur due to situations that
are beyond our control (delays in
materials, weather delays, etc.).
